Mount Kailash in western Tibet is a mountain commonly
sacred to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Bonpas (those
adherents of ancient animistic beliefs). In Sanskrit it
is called Mount Meru or Sumeru, in Hindi – Kailash or
Crystal Shining. To Tibetans it is Kang Rimpoche or
Precious Jewel of the Snows. It rises from the shores of
the sacred lake " Manasarovar " and is also considered
as "The navel of the Universe". To do a Parikrama
(Circumambulate) around this most holy mountain means
cleansing the sins of a lifetime. |
